Spring time is when the year's food and drink festivals start in earnest. So why not head along to Glamis Castle this weekend to quench your thirst and satisfy your appetite?
Glamis Castle is preparing to welcome an array of local food and drink companies this weekend as the historic visitor attraction hosts its first festival of 2022. Taking place on Sunday 22nd May from 11am until 4pm, the Spring Food & Drink Festival will showcase the very best local produce, offering visitors a taste of what Angus producers have to offer.
Businesses from all over Tayside will be trading at the festival including Starfish Cakes and Bakes, Tayport Distillery, Farmhouse Fudge, Casa Di Gelato, and The Pie House Ltd to name but a few.
As well as welcoming a host of local businesses, Glamis Castle will be featuring their very own gin. Launched as part of Glamis’ special 650th anniversary celebrations, the newly launched Glamis Castle 650th Anniversary Gin will be available in the Pavilion Gift Shop. Made in collaboration with local distillers The Gin Bothy, the gin has been made using natural botanical ingredients sourced in the castle’s Walled Garden.
There will also be a series of wine tastings, with La Sicilyana hosting three sessions in the castle’s 16th Century Kitchen. The workshops are £15 per person and last 45 minutes, so book in advance to make sure you get a spot!
The festival is the latest in a growing range of outdoor events at Glamis Castle which have proved popular with visitors, including the return of Forest Bathing sessions. Introduced at Glamis last year, this past-time offers participants a peaceful way to calm their busy minds in the green spaces in the grounds. There are also Forest Bathing sessions on Saturday 25th June, Sunday 17th July and Sunday 11th September, 2022.
In keeping with the focus on mindful activities and wellbeing, the castle’s flower arranging workshops are already in full flow. Led by the official Glamis Castle florist, Margaret Cook of Farmgate Floral Design, guests will create a stunning table flower arrangement to take home during the workshop. The next sessions available to book are on Saturdays on the 11th June, 16th July, 20th August, 17th September, 22nd October, 2022.
With so many events coming up in the summer, Glamis Castle's team are looking forward to welcoming members of the public to enjoy everything the visitor attraction has to offer. Helen Buchanan, General Manager at Glamis Castle, said:
“Last year we hosted a number of seasonal food and drink festivals which were a wonderful way to showcase many fantastic local businesses and sample a variety of different flavours from the area. We’re delighted to be hosting the first food and drink festival of 2022 and hope to see many people exploring the many stands and taking some time to enjoy our gardens and grounds.”
