Now a landmark on the global whisky calendar, World Whisky Day has been celebrated on the third Saturday in May every year since 2012. To celebrate its tenth anniversary this year, the World Whisky Weekender will bring together many of the biggest and brightest names in whisky for a three-day virtual festival of the water of life.
The ethos of World Whisky Day has always been the same; to be an open, inclusive and above all fun celebration of the global whisky community. Eager newcomers, DIY mixologists, single malt purists, and curious drinkers alike are encouraged to celebrate the big day. World Whisky Day really is the perfect opportunity for anyone with an affinity for whisky – drinkers, distillers, retailers, bars, restaurants and everyone in between – to celebrate this much-loved spirit.
Hosted on virtual events platform Balloon, festival-goers are able to plan out their own personalised events schedule, as well as invite friends into private rooms to catch up and enjoy some socially-distanced dramming. Organiser Eric Campbell said: “The World Whisky Weekender will celebrate everything we all love about whisky. There will be panels discussing everything from sustainable distilling to emerging distillers in the ‘new world’ of whisky. A live cocktail masterclass will unveil the Sunrise Highball as the official World Whisky Day 2021 cocktail, and we’ll welcome the return of the much-loved Big Fat Whisky Quiz Lite, hosted by World Whisky Day Founder Blair Bowman.”
