The golf championships known as The Open is being held this year in St Andrews from the 10th to the 17th of July. It is a prestigious tournament this year as it is the 150th celebration of the competition.
The competition will be held in the historic Old Course at St Andrews and the official spirit partner of this season is going to be Loch Lomond Whiskies. The award-winning, independent distiller crafted Loch Lomond the Open Special Edition 2022 in partnership with legendary golfer Colin Montgomerie, who worked closely with Master Blender Michael Hendry to create a whisky worthy of The Open’s historic anniversary. Each bottle has Montgomerie’s signature on, making it a perfect souvenir or gift for those golf and whisky fans.
Each single malt expression has been carefully crafted using Loch Lomond Whiskies’ remarkable straight-neck stills, which are entirely unique to the distillery. The stills have allowed the master blender Michael Hendry to explore and develop a new blend that is worthy of the historic anniversary.
The blends created for this event has been described as ‘perfectly capturing the distilleries signature style of fruit, honey and soft smoke’. The additional hints of strawberry, lime peach and a lingering sweetness perfectly illuminate the oak spice finish. Aged in American oak cask and hand selected, the batch has been finished in Bordeaux Red Wine Barriques for 36 months which add a nice, unique layer to the complexity of the bottle.
Andrew Jack, Head of Whisky Marketing at Loch Lomond Whiskies, said:
